Strabane RFC appoints new CCRO

Strabane Rugby Football Club are thrilled to announce their new CCRO – Ruan DeBeer.
A product of the small Western Cape town of Gordon’s Bay, Ruan de Beer attended high school DF Malan, where his 48 appearances for the 1st XV is a standout achievement in a league that boasts significant player depth.
Having enrolled at Stellenbosch University, de Beer made his mark by representing the Maties 1st XV and Maties 7’s teams, leading to provincial selection for Western Province in the U19, U21and SuperSport challenge teams.
It was however a signing with French Club RCBA which elevated the 6 ft 4 flanker to the professional ranks. In 2023 Ruan continued his European spell by representing Italian club, Monferrato in the Serie A division.
Educated at Stellenbosch University, Ruan’s coaching career started at Eikestad school in Stellenbosch, an area known for its rich and strong rugby culture. Having completed numerous coaching courses with World Rugby, Ruan is eager to bring his knowledge, enthusiasm, and dedication to the club.
“I am thrilled to join Strabane rugby club. Together, let's strive for excellence both on and off the field, as we embark on an exciting journey of growth, camaraderie, and success. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you as we work towards our shared goals. Let's make this season one to remember!"
Ruan will be leading the club's community outreach and coach/player and academy education programmes which are about to be launched, these include summer camps, and our new youth academy. Ruan has a wealth of experience on and off the field, from creating school partnerships with previous clubs, teaching sport in schools, playing rugby since he was 7 years old, as well as being a full-time professional player.
The community outreach and coach education program will assist in our vision to be the destination for amateur rugby across the region, and complement our new North West Barbarians Youth Academy programme.
By building these links with the community, we aim to grow participation across all sections of the game, whilst developing our coaches to provide a fun, knowledgeable, positive and engaging experience for all participants. Ruan with hopefully lead SRFC into a new future and hopefully new facilities which will be the catalyst to unleashing the hidden rugby talent in the local area.
